Whet your appetite for ISE’s Development Conference

16 April 2025

Ahead of ISE’s Student Development Conference we share some of our leading L&D articles from forthcoming event speakers.

ISE’s Student Development Conference takes place on 7 May in London. As well as the launch of our annual development survey, we will be delving into some of the key themes and challenges faced by our learning and development community.

As ever we have an expert line-up and the full agenda is now available to view. Here’s a taste of what to expect:

Student to professional

Rebecca Fielding, ISE Fellow and Founder of Gradconsult, explored the psychological shifts from student to professional and why this gap is widening in an article last year.

She takes to the stage at this year’s conference to share new data on the topic. Along with HSBC and FCA she will explain the findings of a large-scale study that evidences and maps key psychological shifts that can inform onboarding, induction, and ongoing development strategies.

Building future skills in early talent

Leading approaches to training and development are no stranger to Development Beyond Learning. They’ve shared how their award-winning learning solution is creating Jardine Matheson’s future CEOs and how they created a world-class onboarding experience for Fidelity International.

Delegates at this year’s conference will find more expert advice as founder and chair Josh Mackenzie explains how to build future skills in early talent. The interactive session means that attendees will gain actionable insights for creating programmes that address current challenges while anticipating future workforce needs.

Developing breakthrough mindsets are key to graduate success

Supporting students to develop a mindset that breaks through the attitudes and assumptions that are holding them back is key to their success.

Jon Down, Director of Development, at Grit Breakthrough Programmes explained what’s behind this thinking in an article on Insights and he’ll be delving into the topic in more detail at this year’s Student Development Conference. Delegates will takeaway practical steps that will support new hires and their student employability programmes.

Early careers trends shaping 2025

Regulars on the ISE events calendar, The Smarty Train explained how a data-driven strategy can transform approaches to recruitment, development and retention at ISE’s Student recruitment Conference and their webinar looked at ways to make L&D stick.

At the start of the year Dr. Khairunnisa Mohamedali, Chief Innovation Officer, looked to the future to consider which early career trends would shape 2025 and she has her eye firmly on the future at this year’s Student Development Conference.

The session on how to help Gen Z hires thrive in the workplace uses interactivity, real-life examples and science-backed research from their team of futurists, learning design specialists and behavioural scientists to give participants practical tools to upskill and support graduates to be exceptional performers.

Preparing students for work success

Shoshanna Davis, Founder of Fairy Job Mother, is teaming up with Zayd Dawood, the Academic Course Leader in MSc Game Development at University of Gloucestershire to share how gamified learning can level up early talent training. This practical session will include a live demo and practical tips on how to bring gamification into training.

But to set apprentices and graduates up for success at work, the people managing them must be set up for success too. Read Shoshanna’s earlier article on How to empower line managers to better understand and engage Gen Z.
