The apprenticeship route is an important pathway for employers to bring new hires into their organisations. Apprenticeships are a structured approach which combines work with training. Governments across the UK regulate apprenticeships meaning that this is a protected term that can only describe approved programmes. Some firms recruit learners direct from school or college but do not put them onto a formal apprenticeship programme.
Apprenticeships exist in most countries across the world and in all of the UK nations. Most of the information on this site relates specifically to the apprenticeship system in England as this is where most of the big changes have been happening in recent years. However, many ISE members are also likely to be recruiting in other UK countries. The following resources are designed to support this.
