Less than 1 per cent of DfE department workforce was made up of apprentices

The division responsible for running and promoting apprenticeships within the Department for Education employs the lowest proportion of apprentices across the whole department.

Following the shadow education secretary Angela Rayner's request, DfE revealed it has a total of 209 apprentices, accounting for 3 per cent of its 6,368 staff.

Rayner said the government is “failing to meet its own target, a concerning sign that they are not serious about making a success of the apprenticeship programme”.
